Song Review: We Don't Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez

 

This is the most boring song ever made. No joke, no exaggeration, We Don't Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez is the single, most boring song, of all time. As crushingly dull as Yes Indeed, Gucci Gang, Bank Account, White Iversion, I Hate You I Love You, One Call Away, Toosie Slide, and even You Say are, at least some effort went into making them. That's not the case with this. This is pure autopilot. There is no passion, no effort, just pure phoned-in-ness. Let's start with Charlie, who to say he sounds bored is an insult to the concept of boredom, because if he sounded bored, that would imply there was emotion in his voice. But Christopher Walken in Peter Pan Live and Stephen Wright have more emotion combined than Charles in this song. His voice has no emotion or passion, and is as weak as a twig. It gives me absolute pain and discomfort. As for Selena? She's as forgettable as Quavo was in Inentions. She's slightly better than Charlie, but she's still whiny, dull, and emotionless. Finally, the lyrics. It's basically the lyrics to Maroon 5's Don't Wanna Know, which unlike most music critics, I actually like, but worse. Sure that song wasn't a lyrical masterpiece, but the lyrics in WDTA paint the picture as so bland, blah, and bleak. In conclusion, We Don't Talk Anymore is AWFUL. It's the song equivalent of wet paint. It is a boring peice of blah that I never want to hear ever again. At least Marvin Gaye is enjoyabley bad, this is just nothing. Absolutely nothing.
