Top 10 Best songs of 2011

Many people think that 2011 was a great year for music. And I agree. It was a pretty decent year. There were a lot of really good 2011 songs. And while there were some 2011 stinkers, in this list, we're talking about the best of the best. This is my list of the top 10 best songs of 2011.

10.

A lot of people really hate this song. And while I do get where the hate comes from, it's just so fun and charming that I can't really get too mad at it.

Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer

I get the arguments raised against this song. Unlike something like Bills or Sunday Best, Keep Your Head Up does feel a little condescending. But despite how condescending it is, there's just a fun charm to it. The production is fun and enjoyable, Andy Grammer has a lovely singing voice, and while he does come off as a condescending boss like you'd see in Office Space, he's just so happy and goofy. While he does feel a little condescending, you can feel that he isn't trying to be. He's genuinely trying to cheer you up and help you look at the positives in life. Not to mention the fun and catchy, sunshiny vibe of the song. It's just such an enjoyable, bopping vibe. And while it would've been cool to see the interactive music video, this music video is cool too, especially because it has a cameo from Dwight from The Office. If you hate this song, I get it. It is only #10. But in my opinion, Keep Your Head Up, despite being a little condescending, is too fun and charming for me to hate.

9.

Chris Brown is a terrible person. We all know that. But unlike someone like 6ix9ine, who is a terrible person that has never made a good song in his life, Chris Brown can make a good song when he feels like it. Turn Up The Music, Post To Be, Go Crazy. All these are really fun, enjoyable jams. And while this song is no Go Crazy, it's defintely up there.

Yeah 3x by Chris Brown

Yeah 3x is everything you'd ever want in a party jam. Fantastic beat, fun lyrics, a pumping instrumental, and of course, a charismatic voice. Like with actors, you can tell when someone is having fun singing, or when they're loathing every second. And Chris is having so much fun in this song. He's excited, enjoying himself, and is enthusiastic as hell. Not since DRAM and Surfaces have I seen a singer this in love with life. It's so fantastic. Even people that hate Chris Brown agree that this song is awesome. That's how good it is. So yeah, Yeah 3x is amazing. It's fun, enthusiastic, and an absolute jam. Even if you hate Chris Brown, please check this song out.

8.

What the hell happened to this guy?

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and Kimbra

Seriously, why did we just let this guy disappear? Pretty much everyone loves this song, including me. The production is cool, fun, and relaxing, Gotye has a lovely singing voice, the music video is cool and creative, the lyrics are really interesting, and the song manages to be both bizarre and inviting at the same time. As for the guest artist, Kimbra? She's good too. Her voice is lovely and is very similar to Gotye's. It's just a very bizarre, enjoyable song. I wonder what happened to Gotye and Kimbra. They truly have become somebody we used to know.

7.

My #7 pick is The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars.

The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars

A lot of people have this song on their worst of 2011 lists. And on the one hand, I completely understand why. The lyrics are really bad, Bruno does sound a little pompous, and these kinds of songs don't always appeal to everyone. But on the other hand, I've always liked this song, even back in 2011. The beat is nice, relaxing, and fun, the music video is creative, the lyrics, while pretty bad, are still relatable, but what ties it together is Bruno himself. I'll get more into this when I make my 2011 worst list, but from 2011-2013, Bruno had no idea what he was doing. He was just stumbling on to a bunch of different niches, each one not suiting him, until he collaborated with Mark Ronson in 2014 to make Uptown Funk, and finally found his niche: making 80s tributes. Why do I bring this up? Because, like Uptown Funk, and the other 80s songs that Bruno would make in the years to come, The Lazy Song takes advantage of Bruno's biggest strength: his charisma. Throughout the song, Bruno is so charismatic and cool, sucking the viewer into what he's saying, and making the song fun to listen to. Also, the alternate music video is cool too:

(R.I.P Leonard Nimoy)

So, yeah. I like The Lazy Song. If you hate it, understandable. It's not for everyone. But for me, The Lazy Song is a fantastic song, and a great highlight in Bruno's discography.

6.
Like The Lazy Song, this next song is one that also appears on a lot of worst of 2011 lists. And on the one hand, I completely understand why. But on the other hand, it's absolutely awesome.

The Time (Dirty Bit) by The Black Eyed Peas

Unlike Boom Boom Pow and Imma Be, which are incredibly obnoxious and annoying, The Time (Dirty Bit), while also being kind of obnoxious, is also fun as hell. Similar to Yeah 3x, and a certain song coming up, TTDB is just a fun as hell party jam. The beat is fun and energetic, everyone is having a fantastic time, the lyrics are stupid, but so what?, the music video, while pretty dated, is still really fun and cool, everyone sounds great, especially Fergie, and the sample of I Had The Time Of My Life is perfectly implemented. It's really nice sounding, and soothing. And that ending. Oh my god do I love the ending of this song. It's just such an explosive burst of fun and energy. It's the kind of song perfect for when you want something brainless and fun. Call me crazy, but I love The Time (Dirty Bit). If you hate it, fine. But I think it's an absolute jam, and I have the time of my life whenever I'm listening to it.

5.

Well, those last 2 picks were pretty controversial. Let's move on to something we can all agree on.

Mr. Saxobeat by Alexandra Stan

I heard this song a lot when I was younger. And by god did this song age perfectly. Let's start with the production, because oh my god this production is amazing. It's so funky and fun, supported by an amazing sax riff. Also, Alexandra sounds amazing. Her voice manages to be both soft, confident, and amazing all at the same time. And while the music video is a little weird, it's still decent. It's just an absolutely funky, fun, underrated as hell jam. Check it out. Please.

4.

I love you, Pitbull.

Give Me Everything by Pitbull and Ne-Yo

This song is absolutely fantastic. The beat is amazing, all 3 performers are amazing, and like Yeah 3x, The Time (Dirty Bit), and a certain song coming up, Give Me Everything radiates fun from every pore. Ne-Yo gives a fun, charismatic performance, and Pitbull radiates fun. It's an absolutely fantastic song from every perspective, and so much fun in every sense of the word. And the fact that it's only #4 highlights how much I adore these next 3 songs.
3.

I love this song so much.

Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes and Adam Levine

I already reviewed this song, so if you want an in-depth look at why I love it so much, click this link: https://jeremyusmusiccorner.blogspot.com/2020/11/song-review-stereo-hearts-by-gym-class.html. The short version is that Stereo Hearts is an absolute jam in every sense of the word. The production is absolutely fantastic and fun, Gym Class Heroes sounds great, and has an enjoyable charm and charisma, Adam Levine sounds great, the music video is really cool, the "oh, ooooooh, oh" is such a bop, the breakdown at the end is fantastic, and while the song does kind of abuse its radio metaphor, it's not that bad, and gives the song a certain kind of charm. It's just such a charming, fun, enjoyable bop. A lot of people really hate this song, but I absolutely love it. It's so fun, enjoyable, and catchy. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't. Stereo Hearts is such a great song, and I look forward to hearing more from Gym Class Heroes.

2.

Stereo Hearts was originally going to be my #2. But then I found this song, and just. Wow. This song is fantastic.

We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP

We No Speak Americano is an absolutely fantastic, infectious piece of music. The lyrics are not in English, so I won't get into them. Besides, that's not what makes this song great. That would be the production. This production is so fun and lively. It's virtually impossible to not dance whenever this song comes on. And while it is repetitive, unlike The Harlem Shake, which gets annoying after 2 minutes, We No Speak Americano never gets annoying. Ever. On top of that, there are great switch-ups, and the music video is a fantastic homage to silent films. Just listen to this song. You won't regret it in the slightest.

And before we get to #1, a few Honorable mentions:

Super Bass by Nicki Minaj

I'm not that much of a Nicki Minaj fan, but Super Bass is a great song.

Fast Lane by Bad Meets Evil

Great beat, fantastic flow, great lyrics, and fantastic music video

Someone Like You by Adele

As someone who absolutely hates Adele, I like this song. Unlike her other trash, the production is nice, Adele sounds decent, the lyrics are fine, and the chorus doesn't make me want to gouge my ears out.

Love On Top by Beyonce

If every Beyonce song was like this, I would understand why she has an obsessive fanbase. Because wow is this song amazing.

Good Life by OneRepublic

Why do so many people hate this song? It's so happy and lovely.

Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People

Weird as hell, and a tad overrated. But alright.

Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) by Shakira

Insanely catchy and fun.

Champagne Showers by LMFAO and Natalia Kills

Incredibly obnoxious, but fun as hell. And while the intro does run a little long, unlike In My Feelings, it at least has the courtesy to be funny, instead of Drake whining at his girlfriend.

Rain Over Me by Pitbull and Marc Anthony

A groovy jam.

On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull

One of the best party jams of all time.

Young Wild And Free by Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Bruno Mars

I love this song. It's so fun, enjoyable, and nice.

6 Foot 7 Foot by Lil Wayne and Cory Gunz

Consider this song the honorary #11. Fantastic beat, great vocals from both artists, and insanely clever lyrics.

Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera

It may be a sellout, but at least it's a sellout that sounds great.

Firework by Katy Perry

An empowering, amazing piece of fantastincness. Also, it gave us this:

Words, Words, Words by Bo Burhnam

A fantastic and hilarious comedy song.

We Found Love by Rihanna and Calvin Harris

Consider this song the honorary #11. It's insanely catchy, Rihanna sounds amazing, and it works really well with clips of A Night Of The Roxbury. Seriously, click this link: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2h4PhgobI8), mute it, and play We Found Love over it. It's crazy how well it works.

Jack Sparrow by The Lonely Island and Michael Bolton

A fantastic comedy song from The Lonely Island, and easily the best thing Michael Bolton ever did. Well, aside from this:

Black And Yellow by Wiz Kalifa

Catchy and fun.

And now, onto #1:

1.

LMFAO is an incredibly dated band. Most of their songs are dumb as hell, dated party filler, virtually forgotten by everyone. But there's one song of theirs that has aged beautifully. I've been building up to it throughout this list, but the time has come to reveal my #1 pick: Party Rock Anthem.

Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO, Lauren Bennet, and GoonRock

Remember everything I said Yeah 3x? Multiply them by 10000, and that is Party Rock Anthem in a nutshell. The production is incredible, the lyrics are incredibly fun and enjoyable (although that lyric about running through these hos like Draino is...eh), the music video is clever, and Redfoo and Sky Blu are absolutely fantastic. Like DRAM, Surfaces, and Chris Brown on Yeah 3x, you truly believe these guys are party animals that love every aspect of life, and that enthusiasm helps the listener love the song even more. Also, Lauren Bennet is great, GoonRock's production is great, the "Every Day I'm Shuffling" is a huge burst of nostalgia, and that breakdown near the end is phenomenal. Bottom line, Party Rock Anthem is incredible. It manages to feel exactly like you're at a party, and unlike most parties, I never get tired of this one. It is truly an amazing piece of awesomeness that cannot be replicated. You may not have been around for long, LMFAO, but at least you gave us this masterpiece. God bless you guys.

Well, that was my best songs of 2011 list. What did you think? What's your list? Comment below, and stay tuned for my top 10 worst songs of 2011.
