Top 50 Songs of 2020

2020 was one of the best years for music in recent memory. While there were a few stinkers here and there, most songs on the year-end were absolutely fantastic. And today, I'm going to honor them with my Top 50 songs of 2020.

But before we do that, 2 things:

1. None of the songs on my top 10 best songs of 2020 list will be here.

2. There will be a lot of picks you will probably disagree with. If you don't like one of these songs, comment below. But be respectful

Now that we got that out of the way, strap in because we have a lot of songs to cover. This is my top 50 songs of 2020.

50.

If the World Was Ending by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels

Let's start off with probably the most disagreeable song on this list, If The World Was Ending. A lot of people really hate this song. I am not one of them. This song knows exactly how to hit my heartstrings. It has relaxing piano production, JP Saxe has a lovely soft voice, and wow has Julia improved. Like seriously, this is the same women who sang Issues? Really?! Who the hell was her singing coach? Whoever it was, they did a great job. That being said, there are few things that put this song at the bottom of the list. The lyrics are hokey, the premise is kind of dumb, and the depressing feel makes ITWWE the kind of song you can only listen to when you're in the mood for it, while the rest of these songs I could listen to at any time. But still, If The World Was Ending is a great song. I understand the hate, but for what it is, If The World Was Ending is really good.

49.

Savage Love by Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685

'
Before I start talking about this song, I would like to say one thing: I know that Jason Derulo stole the beat from Jawsh 685 without his permission, and not even crediting him for said beat. That was an incredibly dickish thing to do, and I don't support it at all. That being said, Savage Love is a great song that's overhated as hell. The beat is really fantastic, fun, and catchy, the lyrics are good, Jason sounds alright, not his best performance, but it's ok, and unlike If The World Was Ending, which is depressing and somber, Savage Love just has an energetic, fun feeling. It's an alright, fun, and enjoyable song, which doesn't deserve the amount of hate it has. And for those of you who don't like how I'm giving Savage Love a positive review, you're really not going to like what I talk about next.

48.

Hard To Forget by Sam Hunt

Yes. I like Hard To Forget. Don't get me wrong, the lyrics are pretty bad. But everything else about this song is absolutely fantastic. The Web Peirce sample sounds great and gives the song some personality, Sam Hunt has a great voice, the production is fun and enjoyable, the song does an excellent job of combining country and rap, the music video is goofy and ridiculous, the lyric video is cool, and that chorus is so fun to sing along with. I've seen songs with great production, but bad lyrics, like Dear Future Husband, Lucid Dreams, and Freaky Friday. But unlike Hard To Forget, those songs are bad in a way I can't ignore. Dear Future Husband is an ugly pile of misandry, Lucid Dreams is a cartoonishly emo breakup song that doesn't even know what a Lucid Dream is, and Freaky Friday is an unfunny comedy song that strokes the ego of a terrible person. But I'm not going to ignore production this good just because of a few bad lyrics about how Sam Hunt won't get over a breakup. So, yeah. This song rules. If you hate it, understandable. But I think Hard To Forget is an absolute jam, and if it wasn't for the lyrics, it would be much higher on this list.

47.

Supalonely by BENEE and Gus Dapperton

Supalonely is a very weird song. But it's really cool too. The production is fun and groovy, BENEE has a lovely singing voice, Gus Dapperton has a good guest verse, the music video is cool and quirky, and the lyrics are very interesting. While I have adjusted to the pandemic, there are instances where I feel kind of lonely, so these lyrics do speak to me a bit. And the fact that it's a catchy and retro funkfest makes it even better. A lot of people love this song, and I agree with them. It's a very good song. It's funky, it's cool, it's relatable, and it's fun. I hope BENEE and Gus have more hits in the future. Because they really deserve it.

46.

Me and Ur Ghost by Blackbear

Blackbear has really grown on me. He's less like an actual emo douchebag, and more like a parody of an emo douchebag. A caricature that exaggerates the traits of these vapid emo douchebags to a cartoonish level. Sometimes it fails, like in Hot Girl Bummer, and sometimes it works, like with this song, Me and Ur Ghost. The production is fantastic, Blackbear sounds great, the music video is cool, especially the animatronic animal band, and the lyrics are really good. Unlike Hot Girl Bummer, which is an angsty, whiny, piss fest. Me and Ur Ghost is an interesting analysis of Blackbear's failed relationship. It's kind of like the opposite of Hard To Forget. While that song is about Sam Hunt being in denial about his breakup, and saying to himself "Oh, she's just playing hard to forget. She'll come back eventually" (No she won't), here, Blackbear is focusing purely on the failed relationship. He acknowledges that he f'd up and she won't come back, and he's analyzing what went wrong in the relationship, and trying to cope with it, by using a stand-in, in this case, her "ghost". It's very cool stuff. It sucks that my introduction to Blackbear was the abhorrent Do, Re, Mi because stuff like this proves that the man does have some talent. And speaking of Blackbear...

45.

My Ex's Best Friend by Machine Gun Kelly and Blackbear

A lot of people really hate Machine Gun Kelly's newest album, Tickets To My Downfall. I haven't heard all of the songs from that album, but My Ex's Best Friend is easily one of the album's highlights. The production is fantastic, and extremely reminiscent of classic rock, MGK has a great voice, the lyrics are kind of dumb, but they're an enjoyable kind of dumb, the music video is cool, and I love Blackbear on this song. His guest verse is easily on of the best guest verses I've ever heard, right up there with Lil Wayne on Be Like Me and Skip Marley on Chained To The Rhythm. I also like how in the music video, he's a tow truck driver. That's a clever way to insert him into the song. So yeah, My Ex's Best Friend is a fantastic rock song from 2 ok artists. And speaking of good songs from hated albums...

44.

I Was A Teenage Teenager by Green Day

I have no feelings on Green Day. Aside from American Idiot, I have not heard a single song from them. And until their newest album, Father Of All Motherfuckers (No, I'm not calling it Father Of All... that is just stupid) dropped, I haven't even thought of them. A lot of people hate this album, and while I haven't heard every song from it, this one is absolutely fantastic. Like My Ex's Best Friend, I Was A Teenage Teenager has a very classic rock vibe. The production is hard hitting, the vocals are fantastic, and while some of the lyrics are kind of dumb, most of them are alright. A lot of people hate this song, but I have no idea why. It's a hard hitting, classic rock throwback. What's there to hate? If you hate this song, tell me why in the comments, I'd love to get your insight. But I absolutely fricking love I Was A Teenage Teenager. We needed something like this in 2020.

43.

White Christmas by Imagine Dragons

So, Imagine Dragons made a cover of White Christmas. And it's insanely good. The instrumental sounds amazing, everyone sounds fantastic, especially Dan Reynolds, and it manages to perfectly capture the essence of Christmas Spirit. It's just a fantastic cover, great to listen to during the holidays. Thanks for giving this to us, Imagine Dragons. It's a great gift. And speaking of Christmas...

42.

Lit This Year by Florida Georgia Line

Since Luke Bryan managed to make a song I like this year, One Margarita, it only makes sense that the other scourge of the country charts, Florida Georgia Line, makes a song I like this year as well. Especially to make up for the vapid, overpatriotic mess that is I Love My Country. And this countrified Christmas jam sure cuts it. The production is nice, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley sounds great, the lyrics are fun and charming, the music video is a great homage to Peanuts, and it's just an all around fun Christmas song. As a fan of both Country music and Christmas music, Lit This Year hits both my buttons. Thanks for making another good song, FGL. I have faith in you two. Keep striving for greatness.

41.

Baby Sitter by DaBaby and Offset

Baby Sitter is my favorite DaBaby song. Why? Let me explain. First, the intro. Like Party Rock Anthem and Champagne Showers, the intro for DaBaby goes on a little long, but it manages to be really funny. I won't explain why, just watch it. As for the song itself? Absolutely fantastic. The beat is incredibly funky, DaBaby sounds fantastic, the lyrics are really cool and fun, the music video is fantastic, Offset is great, and the song just has a fun, enjoyable vibe. If you want something fun to listen to, or are a DaBaby fan, check this song out.

40.

Hot Shower by Chance The Rapper, MadeinTYO, and DaBaby

Hot Shower is one of my all time favorite comedy songs. The beat is fun, all 3 performers are great, the music video is fun and silly, the subplot with the lawyer is a little mean spirited, but is a clever contrast to Chance having fun, and I LOVE these lyrics. They're incredibly fun and silly, not to mention there's a reference to Good Burger. I've already talked about this song twice. Once in its own review, and the other time in my review of The Big Day. So if you want me to talk about my love for Hot Shower in more detail, check out those reviews. Moving on.

39.

Lemonade by Internet Money, Don Toliver, Gunna, and Nav

Lemonade is one of the chillest, most laid back songs I've ever heard in my life. The instrumental is soft and relaxing, everyone has a relaxed vibe when they rap, especially Don Toliver, the music video is enjoyably surreal, the lyrics are a little generic, but they're alright, and it manages to be funky and catchy in addition to relaxing. If you want something to relax and bop to, give Lemonade a sip.

38.

What To Do! By Danny Towers

What To Do! is such a weird song. And I love it. The production is fun, the lyrics are kind of weird, but alright, the music video is cool, but what makes this song so weird is Danny's voice. I've heard some of Danny's other songs, and he has a very deep voice. But in What To Do!, he has this bizarre high pitched voice. And I think it sounds really good, but it's odd that they did this. Regardless, What To Do! is a fantastic song. If you want something weird and psychadellic, give this song a listen.

37.

What's Poppin by Jack Harlow

What's Poppin by Jack Harlow is one of the most quotable songs of all time. Every lyric is just so iconic and uniquely Jack. It's all just so clever and cool. On top of that, the production is fun and enjoyable, Jack sounds fantastic, the music video is cool, and the song has a relaxing, fun vibe. It's like the song equivalent of a best friend who you've known since childhood, and have developed a strong bond and connection with. It's easily one of the best Lyrical Lemonade songs of all time, and it's no wonder that it's so popular.

36.

GNAT by Eminem

It's really weird hearing a song reference COVID-19. The only other song I can think of that referenced COVID-19 is Thick by DJ Chose. But unlike that song, GNAT is really good. The instrumental is cool, Eminem sounds great and has a good flow, the lyrics are full of fantastic wordplay, and the music video has the signature Lyrical Lemonade weirdness. If you want a good song about COVID-19, check out GNAT. I'm so glad that Eminem is working with Lyrical Lemonade, because it really does suit him.

35.

Coffee by Quinn XCII and Marc E. Bassy

Coffee is a really good song. The instrumental is very nice and soothing, Quinn has a lovely voice, the lyrics are very interesting, and the song has a very nice, catchy vibe. It manages to be both somber and lighthearted at the same time. As for Marc? He sounds good too. Not as good as Quinn, but his guest verse has some nice charm. I also love how fun and playful this music video is. If you want a nice, relaxing, and charming song, grab a cup and fill it up with Quinn and Marc's Coffee.

34.

Mood by 24kGoldn and Iann Dior

Mood is one of those songs people either love or hate. And I love it. It's not great (it is only #34), but it's still a really good song. The instrumental is fun and funky, that guitar riff is great, 24kGoldn sounds great, Iann Dior's guest verse is fantastic, the music video is cool, and while the lyrics are kind of dumb, they aren't terrible, and they give the song a kind of immature charm. I get the hate, but I think that Mood is a great song. If you hate Mood, I respect your opinion. As a fellow controversial opinions haver, I know how it feels to have an opinion shared by very few people. But in my opinion, Mood is a flawed as hell, but fantastic song that deserves the success and airplay it has.

33.

Life Is Good by Future and Drake

Like Mood, Life Is Good is a song people either love or hate. And like Mood, I love Life Is Good. The beat is cool, relaxing, and interesting, the lyrics are cool, the music video is great, Drake is fantastic, and as for Future? I like him in this song. A lot of people when talking about this song say that Drake's part is good, and Future's part is bad. And while I do agree that Drake is better than Future in this song, Future is still alright. His flow is good, his voice is fine, and he has a bit of a fun charm to him. Life Is Good is a great song that has a relaxing vibe, good singing, and a very interesting style. Good work, Drake and Future.

32

Working For The Weekend by MAX and bbno$

Do I even need to say why this song is on here? It's phenomenal. The beat is great, MAX is great, bbno$ has a good guest verse, it's produced by AJR, the music video is fantastic, and the lyrics are insanely relatable. The line "I've been working for the weekend, but that weekend never came" is so fricking relatable as a high school student. Bottom line, this song is phenomenal. Please check it out.

31.

Heartbreak Weather by Niall Horan

Heartbreak Weather is the best song made by a 1D member. Yes, even better than Adore You, Sign Of The Times, and Watermelon Sugar. The production is so fantastic and funky, Niall sounds amazing, and I love this music video. It's such a cheesy, vintage music video. Also, the lyrics are great, and the song has such a fun, upbeat vibe. It's funny how I'm talking about this song directly after talking about Working For The Weekend because Heartbreak Weather feels like the kind of song MAX would make. It has the same kind of fun quirkiness his other songs have. Which is probably why I love it so much. Regardless, Heartbreak Weather is a fantastic song that I highly recommend checking out.

30.

Stunnin' by Curtis Waters and Harm Franklin

Stunnin' is pure fun. The beat is fun and catchy, Curtis sounds great, the lyrics are fun, the music video is enjoyably trippy and silly, and Curtis is clearly having the time of his life. He's just having so much but has a deadpan tone which makes the song even funnier. Harm also has a great guest verse and is a good contrast to Curtis. It's just a fantastic, fun as hell song, from 2 good artists. Check it out.

29.

The Birthday Party by The 1975

A lot of people really hate The 1975's newest album, Notes On A Conditional Form. And while I haven't heard every song from that album, I have heard some, and they're not great. However, The Birthday Party is really good. The song has a nice, relaxing, trippy vibe, Mathew Healy has a really lovely, soft voice, the lyrics are cool, and I love the music video. It's so bizarre, trippy, and cool. It has an heir of uncomfortableness but is still very warm and inviting, similar to the song itself. If you want something bizarre and weird, check this song out. But if you don't like weirdness, stay far away from this song.

28.
Ballin' by Mustard and Roddy Rich

So, DJ Mustard took the DJ off his name and suddenly became amazing. Like seriously, if you told me this song was made by DJ Mustard, I would tell you you were crazy. This beat is phenomenal. It's fun, hard-hitting, and jamming as hell. On top of that, Roddy sounds great. His flow is great, he's full of passion, and his voice works perfectly with Mustard's beat. I am amazed at how much DJ Mustard evolved as a producer, and I hope he makes more songs as good as this one.

27.

Hello! by Billy Marchiafava

This song is so stupid and silly, and I love it. The beat is fun and enjoyable, Billy has a good voice, the lyrics are funny, but this music video steals the show. This is easily one of the best music videos I've ever seen. It's so bizarre, fun, and silly. It even has the frickin Quagmire Toilet meme. Just check out this song, you'll have such a good time. I can't wait to hear more from Billy Marchiafava.

26.

Coke And Mentos by Salem Ilse

Coke & Mentos is a really good song. The beat is happy and funky, the lyrics are alright, the music video is cool, but what makes this song so good is Salem herself. I absolutely love her voice. It's so soft and lovely. And it works perfectly with this happy, funky beat. It's weird that Mad At Disney is more popular than this song, when Coke & Mentos is so much better. I am quickly becoming a Salem Ilse fan, and I look forward to hearing more songs from her.

25.

Favorite Color by Contradash

If you read my Top 20 Best Overcast songs list, you'd know that I put this song at #1. And it's not hard to see why. The beat is fun and enjoyable, Contradash has a fantastic voice, the lyrics are good, and the music video is so bright, colorful and fun. As I said when I talked about this song, Favorite Color by Contradash is like if Surfaces made a rap song. It's just such a bright, jovial piece of fun, perfect for when you want something to brighten your day. And speaking of Surfaces...

24.

Learn To Fly by Surfaces and Elton John

For those of you who don't know, I am an Elton John fan. The man has made some fantastic songs, like Crocodile Rock and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, not to mention that phenomenal cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. And seeing Elton collab with the guys that made Sunday Best makes me so happy. While this song is nowhere near as good as Sunday Best, Sail Away or Good Day, Learn To Fly is still a fantastic song. The beat is nice, relaxing and poppy, Forrest and Colin both sound great, the lyrics are nice, the music video has stellar animation, but Elton steals the show. His voice is so velvety and soft, perfect for a Surfaces song. And that solo at the end where he says the title of the song. Beautiful. It almost brings a tear to my eye. God bless you Surfaces. I can't wait to hear more of your happy music.

23.

Krabby Step by Tyga, Swae Lee, and Lil Mosey

I haven't seen Sponge On The Run, mainly because it only exists to kick off a spin-off show that is incredibly disrespectful to the wishes of the late Stephen Hillenburg, but Krabby Step is a fantastic song. The sample of The Krusty Krab theme sounds great, Tyga is fantastic (there's a sentence I'd never thought I'd say), Swae and Mosey both sound great, the lyrics are full of SpongeBob in-jokes, and the music video is great. It's cool seeing these rappers in the SpongeBob world, and seeing this stunning footage from the movie. As a massive SpongeBob SquarePants fan, this song earns my thumbs up. R.I.P Stephen Hillenburg. I'm sure you're giving Nickelodeon the middle finger from heaven.

22.

Good Time by Niko Moon

Ah. This is my kind of country song. No shmaltz, no misogyny, no annoying clichés, just a fun, wholesome tune about having fun. The beat is great, Niko sounds fantastic, the music video is good, and these lyrics are so nice. It's nice to see a country song that's just fun, nice, and wholesome. This is the country music I know and love. Like One Margarita, Good Time is a fun, wholesome piece of country cheese, perfect for when you want something fun and mindless. I can't wait to hear more from you, Niko Moon.

21.

Money Buy Drugs by Cal Scruby

Money Buy Drugs is a song as weird as it is hilarious. The beat is cool, Cal has a good voice, the music video is enjoyably surreal and violent, and the lyrics are hilarious, bizarre, and fun. On top of that, Cal's flow is great. He manages to say these silly, weird lyrics with an incredibly fast flow that makes Godzilla look slow. If you want a good laugh, check this song out. Because it's so weird and funny.

Also "Such a good boy when I was 18 But I smoked alcohol and drank weed And now my brain turned into baked beans Don't be like me, kids I'm fried" is one of the best choruses of all time.

20.

Break My Heart by Dua Lipa

2020 was a really good year to be Dua Lipa. She managed to improve from the garbage that was New Rules, and make some really good songs. And while Break My Heart isn't the best song Dua Lipa made this year (we'll get to that), it's still pretty good. The beat is cool and funky, Dua sounds fantastic, the lyrics are alright, the music video is cool, and Dua doesn't have the smug pretentiousness she had in New Rules. I'm glad Dua is embracing this retro throwback theme, because it really suits her.

19.

Roses (Imanbek Remix) by SAINt JHN

It is crazy how much the popular consensus on this remix flipped. I remember when it first came out, everyone had it near the bottom when ranking 2020 music. But now, just about everyone loves it. Me? I always loved it. The beat is fun, the vocals are a little grating, but they're alright, and the music video is fun and silly. It's just a fun bop. Not much to say. As for my thoughts on the original?

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the original version of Roses.

18.

Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head) by Powfu and Beabadoobee

Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head) is the answer to the question "What if If The World Was Ending was adorable, and had none of its flaws?" The instrumental is nice and soothing, Beabadoobee's hook is lovely, Powfu sounds great, the lyrics are decent, and the song has a quirky, weird vibe. Lyzette G (great music critic, by the way) put this song at #1 on her worst songs of 2020 list, saying that in a year as depressing as 2020, the last thing she wanted to hear is a song about a guy on his deathbed. And I understand. During this stressful time, we don't need depressing music. But I don't think this song is soul-crushing. It appeals to me in the same way If The World Was Ending appeals to me, except it's in a more digestible, quirky, adorable package. Is it depressing? Yes. Is it a masterpiece? No. But Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head) is an incredibly adorable song that never brings me down.

17.

Heartless by The Weeknd

Blinding Lights is a fantastic song, and will appear later in this list, but Heartless is underrated as hell. The beat is funky and psychadellic, Abel sounds fantastic, the lyrics are cool, the music video is cool, and kinda ties into Blinding Lights, and it's just an interesting song in general. Considering how everyone is gaga crazy over Blinding Lights, it's weird that this song isn't getting much attention, because it's really good. Check it out if you haven't heard it.

16.

The Business by Tiësto

I haven't really heard any of Tiësto's other music, but The Business is a really cool song. The beat is relaxing and cool, the lyrics are interesting, Tiësto sounds great, and the music video is cool and creepy. It's an incredibly relaxing, cool, and funky bop. Not much to say, it's just really good. Check it out.

15.

Shinin on My Ex by bbno$ and Yung Gravy

Yung Gravy and bbno$ made many songs together this year, and since I couldn't put every Yung Gravy and bbno$ collab on this list, I only went with 2. The other one I'll talk about later, but right now, I'm talking about Shinin On My Ex. This song is fantastic. The beat is really fun and enjoyable, Yung Gravy and bbno$ both sound great, the music video is cool, the lyrics are full of the same quirkiness that Yung Gravy and bbno$'s other songs have, and it's hilarious how Trevor Wallace films one of the women's shaking butt, and Y2K holds a boom mike to one of the other women's shaking butt. And then around 1:30, Shinin On My Ex goes from really good, to absolutely fantastic. The beat gets funkier and faster, bbno$ raps in an incredibly fast style, and it becomes even more infectious and fun. While it's not the only bbno$ and Yung Gravy song that'll be on this list, Shining On My Ex is a fantastic song from 2 amazing artists, that I highly recommend checking out.

Also, bbno$ saying "I'd be pissed off if this song blew up on Tik Tok" is hilarious, and a clever reference to how Lalala became his most famous song because of Tik Tok.

14.

Be Kind by Marshmello and Halsey

This song has no business being as good as it is. Why do I say that? Because of Halsey. The thing about Marshmello songs is that, while production does play a big part, the main thing that makes a Marshmello song good or bad is the lead artist. This is one of the reasons why Everyday is a great song, and why Friends is a giant pile of dino-poop. And like I said in my worst songs of 2020 list, Halsey is my least favorite female artist. Sure, once in a while she has a good song, like Graveyard and Eastside, but most of her songs are stuff like the boring Bad At Love, the incompetent and dull New Americana, the abhorrent Without Me, and whatever the hell Nightmare was. But Be Kind is amazing. The production is lovely, the lyrics are fine, the music video is cool, but the real surprise is Halsey. Um, question: HOW THE HELL CAN HALSEY SOUND THIS GOOD?! I cannot believe that this is the same woman who sang Without Me, a song that enrages me whenever I hear it. But here, her voice is so soft and lovely, she gives Salem Ilse a run for her money. And I thought it was surprising that Julia Michaels managed to sound good in If The World Was Ending. Halsey, I still hate you, but kudos on making a song this good. Keep improving Halsey.

13.

Fake by Lauv and Conan Grey

I really wish this song became a hit instead of Heather, because it's so much better. The instrumental is nice, Conan sounds a million times better than he does on Heather, Lauv is his usual fantastic self, like Hard To Forget, both the music video and lyric video are good, the lyrics are really good, especially "When the real you's back, I'll pick up my phone", and it's just an enjoyable song in general. It's like a softer version of Mood. I highly recommend checking out this song if you're a fan of either artist or are a fan of good music. Again, this really should've been Conan's big hit, instead of Heather.

12.

RITMO by The Black Eyed Peas and J. Balvin

I have no idea why so many people hate this song. RITMO fricking rules! The instrumental is funky and enjoyable, J. Balvin and The Black Eyed Peas sound incredible, both samples are implemented perfectly, the music video is cool as hell, and it's such an incredibly funky and enjoyable 1980s throwback. And yeah, the lyrics are stupid, but so what? Are you seriously expecting great lyrics out of fricking RITMO? It's just a funky, awesome, amazing jam. Easily one of the best-sampled songs, best movie soundtracks, and best songs from either artist. It is kind of weird that The Black Eyed Peas thought they could make a Latin album, but at least we got this awesome, funky as hell jam out of it. THIS IS THE RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT!

11.

Head & Heart by Joel Corry and MNEK

I really love this song. The beat is funky and fun, Joel and MNEK both sound amazing, the lyrics are good, and it's just a fun funky song.  The song kind of reminds me of Rather Be by Clean Bandit. It has the same funky, fun vibe as that song, except a little stronger. It's an infectious, groovy, fun, happy jam. And the music video. This music video is so cool. I like the juxtaposition of the sad and happy guy, and seeing how their day parralells based on their disposition. And the part of the song where they interact is a floodgate of emotions. If you haven't heard this song, please check it out. It's so fricking good.

10.

Levitating by Dua Lipa and DaBaby

Levitating is an incredible piece of music. The beat is fantastic, the lyrics are good, the music video is cool, and both performers are phenomenal. Dua's soft, velvety voice perfectly fits the funky beat, and DaBaby has a fantastic guest verse, and is having fun being his DaBaby self. While Don't Start Now and Break My Heart are good songs, Levitating is phenomenal. It's a funky as hell 1980s throwback that sounds absolutely amazing, to the point where it gives 24K Magic a run for its money. I am insanely impressed with how much Dua Lipa evolved as an artist, and while not all of her 2020 output is great (Looking at you, Boys Will Be Boys), Levitating is a perfect example of Dua at her best. I look forward to seeing Dua Lipa continue to evolve as an artist, although I doubt she will top this masterpiece of funkiness and 1980sness.

9.

Roxanne by Arizona Zervas

I know what you're thinking: Why is Jeremy ranking a Tik Tok song about some girl from a One Hit Wonder over a funky 80's throwback by Dua Lipa and DaBaby? I'll tell you why: because that Tik Tok song is one of the catchiest things ever. Roxanne by Arizona Zervas is such a fricking bop. The beat manages to somehow be both relaxing and catchy, Arizona's robotic voice works perfectly with the relaxing beat, the music video is a really cool homage to both Pulp Fiction and Groundhog Day, and while the lyrics are kind of stupid, they're not awful, and it's cool to hear a rapper rap about someone other than himself. In fact, he only mentions himself in reference to what Roxanne thinks of him. Name one other rapper that does that. Bottom line, Roxanne is an absolutely fantastic, relaxing, catchy, and cool groove. Arizona Zervas will probably never have another hit, but at least he gave us this piece of awesomeness.

8.

Myrtle Beach Summer 1974 by Yung Gravy and bbno$

A 1970s Disco throwback made by Yung Gravy and bbno$? HELL YES! This song is everything that Say So failed to be. The beat is fun, funky, and really good at capturing a retro feel, Yung Gravy and bbno$ both sound fantastic, the lyrics are quirky and fun, the music video is fantastic, and it's just a fun as hell, groovy disco bop. As someone who likes Disco Music, seeing two of my favorite artists make a 1970s disco throwback makes me so fricking happy. I also see a bit of A Night At The Roxbury sprinkled in the song, which is always a nice addition. Yung Gravy, bbno$? I love you guys. Keep being awesome.

Dynamite by BTS

I am not a KPOP fan. The genre has never really been my thing, and has given us some really awful songs, like DDU-DU DDU-DU, Boys With Luv, and Ice Cream, a song so awful, not even KPOP fans like it. However, Dynamite is absolutely fantastic. It's just such a nice, fun song. The beat is catchy, everyone sounds great, the music video is cool, and it's just such a fun and enjoyable piece of fun. A lot of people criticize this song as being a mainstream sellout, seeing as it's less unique than other KPOP songs, and unlike other KPOP songs, everyone is speaking English. But honestly, that's probably why I like it so much. Not everyone is a fan of the obnoxious, in your face style of KPOP, so something like this is perfectly servicable. Plus, even if it's not as good as some of BTS' other songs, Dynamite is an incredibly fun, enjoyable bop. If you want something fun and enjoyable, check this song out. And I say that as a non-KPOP fan, so you know it's good.

Compensating by Aminé and Young Thug

Compensating is one of the boppiest bops to ever bop. Let's start with the best part of this song, the production. I LOVE this production. It is so funky, catchy, and enjoyable. I dare you to listen to this song, and not immediately start dancing. In fact, as I'm typing this entry, I'm listening to Compensating and dancing as I type it. That's how powerful it is. But that's not all that's great about Compensating. Aminé sounds great, the lyrics are cool, the music video is enjoyably silly and clever, and as for Young Thug? Wow is he good. This is easily the best Young Thug has ever sounded. I liked him fine on Goodbyes, but he was a little screechy at points. Not the case with Compensating. In Compensating, his voice sounds really fun, and he has a fast flow which works really well with the funky as hell beat. Bottom line, Compensating is a fantastic song from an underrated as hell artist. I really wish this was a hit because it's so fricking good. But no, we had to give the talentless pedophile two spots on Billboard. Ugh. Regardless, check out Compensating, as well as Aminé's other songs. Because the man is really talented.

Also, I'd personally recommend checking out REDMERCEDES.

Always Saucy by Yung Gravy, Ski Mask The Slump God, and Trippythakid

Only someone like Yung Gravy can make a rap song out of the theme song for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and have it be the fifth-best song of the year. The sampling is excelent, the lyrics are absolutely fun, Yung Gravy is fun as hell, Ski is his usual fun and quirky self, Trippy has a great flow, all 3 work beautifully with the song, it's just a masterpiece. Talking more about what makes Always Saucy so awesome would spoil its majesty. Just listen to it. It is a musical masterpiece.

4.

yup! by Yung Gravy

While Always Saucy is a phenomenal song, yup! is a fun as hell, charismatic jam. The beat is fun, charismatic, and jamming, Yung Gravy sounds fantastic, the lyrics are cool, the flute riff is really cool, the triangle is a nice touch, and I love this music video. It's an incredibly bizarre, fun tribute to the Anchorman films, complete with bizarre cartoon animals. yup! is just the kind of song that's perfect to jam to and enjoy. It's fun, enjoyable, and charismatic as hell. Please check it out, because it's so much fun.

Bummerland by AJR

ALL HAIL THE MUSICAL GODS THAT ARE ADAM, JACK, AND RYAN MET!!!!!! But seriously, Bummerland is a fantastic song. The production is fantastic, Jack sounds heavenly, the lyrics are cool, the music video is fantastic and fun, the instrumental break is fantastic, and it's just a punchy, fun as hell song. BANG! is a good song, and deserved its spot on my best list, despite the amount of people that hate it for some reason, but Bummerland blows BANG! out of the water. It's a fantastic, amazing, punchy piece of amazingness from the best band of the entire 2010s. If you hate AJR, I respect your opinion, but I don't understand it in the slightest.

Also, I like how they include bloopers at the end of the music video. That was a nice touch.

Blinding Lights by The Weeknd

I told you Blinding Lights would appear on this list. It feels like I don't even need to say what makes Blinding Lights such a good song, because that seems evident. But here goes anyways:

The production is fantastic, Abel sounds amazing, the Take On Me sample is perfectly implemented, the music video is fantastic, the lyrics are cool, and it's just an all-around amazing song in general. Also, the title reminds me of Blinded By The Light by Manfred Mann, which is an awesome song.

Blinding Lights is kind of like the Old Town Road of 2020. Except while Old Town Road is kind of overrated, Blinding Lights I 100% get the appeal for. It's a retro throwback by a fantastic artist so good that it gives I Feel It Coming a run for its money. I have no idea how anyone could hate this song, or if there even is anyone who hates it. It is an amazing piece of music that 100% deserves the attention it has and makes up for the ugly pile of ear rape known as The Hills and the ugly, disgusting movie soundtrack that is Earned It. Even someone like me, who has some of the hottest takes in the music reviewing community, loves this song just as much as everyone else. Wow is this song good. But you're probably wondering how it's only #2. What song could possibly be better than an awesome retro throwback, that literally everyone loves? Well, here's a clue: R.I.P Mac Miller.

Good News by Mac Miller

Unfortunately, I didn't have that strong a connection with Mac Miller as an artist before hearing this song. I knew that he existed and that he, unfortunately, passed away, but I never sought him out. But then Cyril Panda (another great music critic) introduced me to this song, and yeah. Consider me a Mac Miller fan. Let's start with Good News as a song. It's incredible. The production is relaxing and lovely, Mac sounds fantastic, the lyrics are cool, the music video is trippy as hell, and like Lemonade, it's a fun, chill song. And as a tribute? Good News is fantastic. This song was clearly meant to pay tribute to Mac Miller, as opposed to sucking money from his fans. And it shows. It feels like a respectful, comforting hug that tells Mac Miller fans "don't cry because he's gone, smile because he was here". So yeah. Good News is an amazing song that pays tribute to a talented musician in a respectful way. I could think of no other song to put at the top of this list. R.I.P Mac Miller. I hope you're enjoying heaven.

Well, those are my top 50 songs of 2020. There's probably going to be a lot of people who disagree with me on these songs, but at the end of the day, it is just opinions. What are your thoughts on these songs? What are your top 50 songs of 2020? Comment below!

  1. Interesting observation I made.
At 0:58 in the Mood video, the melodyline is similar to Closer.
At 1:30 the melodyline is similar to Memories.

There's not really a point to this observation, but I thought I'd share it nonetheless.

    1. I see it. Although Memories is a sample of a classical music piece.

What did you think of the list?
