As one of the few music critics that doesn't hate Maroon 5, you're probably wondering what my thoughts are on One More Night. Well.... it sucks. I have no idea why so many Maroon 5 haters give a pass to this one, because it really isn't good. At all. But why? First off, the production. This is some of the most boring, bland production I've ever heard. And that's coming from someone who doesn't mind Girls Like You. The Social Tune compared the production in this to the production in Rude By MAGIC! in his worst of 2012 list, which you should really check out by the way, but I think it's worse. The beat for Rude is one of the whitest reggae beats ever, but at least it's funky and catchy. One More Night's beat is so sterile and funkless, that not only does it not sound good, you can't even tell that it's reggae. On top of that, Adam Levine's voice. I have mixed feelings on Adam as a singer. He's like the Drake of singer, in that he covers the entire playing field. Sometimes he can sound really good (Like in Don't Wanna Know and Moves Like Jagger, really mediocre (Like in Daylight and Sugar), and sometimes he sounds really awful (Like in Animals-mals, and This Summer's Gonna Hurt like a MotherFucker). And in this song? Adam leans towards the bad. His voice is screechy and annoying, and those "ooh ooh ooh oohs" are so annoying, they make me want to apologize for insulting the "decoo-bop-dom-day" in All Time Low. As for the lyrics? Yeah, this song is about Adam Levine being in love with a woman squarely for sex, and constantly wanting to ditch her, but because he's an insecure louse, promises himself that he'll only stay for one more night. Yeah, it's telling when that is the part of this song that sucks the least. Overall, One More Night is a boring, screechy mess, which may not be M5's worst song, but is definitely in the top 5.
