Song Review: The Asshole Song by Denis Leary

Denis Leary is one of the best comedians of all time. Sure he may have ripped off a lot of his material from Bill Hicks, but Leary is still an insanely funny man, who has the ability to channel all of our innermost selves, and turn them into a performance that is exaggerated as it is relatable. And nowhere is that more evident than in The Asshole Song. Like with Thrift Shop, I love this song for both the lyrics more than the production. But the production is pretty good too. The guitar sounds amazing. It's like the guitar equivalent of True's sax riff. Denis leary also sounds good, and the production just punches. Bet let's get to the lyrics. I won't analyze every lyric, so you can hear it yourself, but these lyrics are some of the most brilliant examples of satire. Just look at these lyrics, and you're bound to find someone who has done this:

I drive really slow in the ultrafast lane. While people behind me are going insane.

I use public toilets and piss on the seat I walk around in the summertime saying, "How about this heat?"

And then this song goes into overdrive, and gets more exaggerated as Leary fully turns into a cartoon character. Every single piece of this music is absolute genius. Bottom line, The Asshole Song is an absolutely fantastic comedic song, from one of the best comedians of all time. Leary, wherever you are, I hope you're doing alright. Because you are a fantastic human being, as well as a fantastic and hilarious comedian.
