Song Review: Happy by C2C and Derek Martin

 

While I understand the hate for Pharell's Happy, you would have to be clinically insane to hate this Happy. Because this song is absolutely incredible. It's like Better When I'm Dancin' on steroids. Every aspect of this song is insanely fun and infectious, from the production, which sounds like a jazz band on a cocaine high, to the fantastic vocals, to the fantastic music video, to the weird but cool robot vocals, to the great production choices. As for the lyrics? Most of them are pretty generic, but one sticks out in my mind:

This song is not a gospel song This song is not a funk song This song is not a wrong song But this song is a real song!

This lyric basically means that, whatever your music preference or sensibilities, we all need something like this. A song that makes us feel happy and fun. And the song capitalizes on the power of this lyric by slowing it down so we can feel the weight of it. Bottom line, this song is incredible. Pharell's Happy is a decent song, but this really should've been the bigger, more famous song named Happy. Because WOW is it good. Check it out.
