Song Review: Downtown by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Wow. This song is absolutely fantastic. I mean, this is Macklemore we're talking about, but woooooooow. Downtown is straight up incredible. But why? Let's start with the premise: this song is about Macklemore getting a moped. A moped. I barely know what a moped is. But this song is so good that it makes the concept of owning a moped seem fricking amazing. The production is really good. It's fun, upbeat, catchy, and enjoyable. Macklemore is good as usual, and there's a lot of charisma. But what makes this song really good is the punch. The song starts with really good piano sounds, but then morphs into a decent, fun funky song. The first part of the song is really groovin and jammin. Not absolutely amazing, but Macklemore is cool, and the backup singers are great. But around the 1 minute mark, Downtown switches from being a decent fun song to being musical heaven.
The backup singers are spectacular, especially the one that sings the chorus, Macklemore is amazing, the production is fantastic, combining amazing elements, with good production from the first half, the lyrics are great, and the song is just phenomenal. And then we get to the ending, and....

This ending is amazing. They somehow take the amazing chorus, and punch it up to 110. Not since Castle On The Hill have I seen a song so explosively happy. Bottom line, Downtown is one of the best songs ever made. Thrift Shop is still good, Can't Hold Us is awesome, and Same Love is insanely admirable. But Downtown is the best Macklemore song ever. It sounds amazing, it's fun as hell, everything about it just works to a T. While I still love the songs I put on my 2015 best list, a part of me regrets not putting Downtown on it. So hopefully this review will rectify that, because this song is amazing. Why did we ever get rid of Macklemore?
