Song Review: Sunday Best by Surfaces

Surfaces is the best new band of the 2020s. They're insanely likeable, and make fun, positive bops. And Sunday Best is the song responsible for bringing them to the limelight. A lot of people when ranking the 2020 billboard have put this song at the bottom, and I disagree completely. Sure, their voices aren't great, but they sound decent, and have a nice charm. On top of that, I love this music video. Seeing Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki invade the cold, grey environment of a Dilbert-esque office environment, and make it fun is a really cool way to help this song stick. I also like the bit where the boss keeps pulling the calendar and it keeps saying Sunday. It's funny, and helps support this songs message of positivity. But let's get to the main thing that makes this song work: the production. I love every aspect of this production. It's just so fun, silly, enjoyable, and funky. Unlike Happy, which while not bad, feels generic and impersonal, Sunday Best is an incredibly personal, happy groove that I am not ashamed in liking. If Surfaces is piloting the 2020 music train, then we're in good hands.
